RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HBA1C AND SYSTOLIC AND DIASTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS AT PKU MUHAMMADIYAH GUBUG HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease accompanied by complications such as hypertension. HbA1c is used to assess long-term blood sugar control, which can affect blood pressure. From medical record data for June-July 2024, there were 55 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gubug Hospital. Objective: The relationship between HbA1c and systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gubug Hospital.Methods: The study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data is obtained from the patient's medical records. Samples were selected using the purposive sampling method, and the analysis was carried out by the Chi-Square test. Results: Of the 55 respondents, 17 were male (30.9%) and 38 female (69.1%). 25-44 years old as many as 2 people (3.6%), 45-64 years old 33 people (60.0%), and >65 years old 20 people (36.4%). The duration of treatment was 1-5 days for 53 people (96.4%) and 6-10 days for 2 people (3.6%). Systolic blood pressure ≤140 mmHg in 18 people (32.7%) and >140 mmHg in 37 people (67.3%). Diastolic blood pressure ≤90 mmHg in 29 people (52.7%) and >90 mmHg in 26 people (47.3%). HbA1c was good (<6.5%), 6 people (10.9%), moderate (6.5-8%), 14 people (25.5%), and poor (>8%) 35 people (63.6%). The Chi-Square test showed a p-value for HbA1c with systolic blood pressure of 0.014 and diastolic 0.039 (both <0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between HbA1C and systolic and diastolic blood pressure in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gubug Hospital.
